It’s not joke that I love golf. You are going to get pretty sick of my run down of every course and let’s be honest, I’m sub-par at best (see what I did there?). So why do you want my opinion on the courses? Well, you probably don’t! However I’ll be pretty blunt and if you’re an average player like me, then maybe this blog is for you!
The Views!
I’m going to start with The Harvest. This course is beautifully set in South East Kelowna with some of the most amazing views around! If you’re lucky enough to play in the fall, you can golf while eating your heart out! As the name suggests, The Harvest is build around…well, the harvest! Set amongst apple trees and an orchard (that is slowly being taken over by grape vines), the gentle hills are easy enough for a brisk walk, while each hole is long enough that you won’t feel foolish if you want to cart it. Speaking of carts – they have new ones for 2021 and let me tell you, my butt has never been so happy!
The Course!
So back to the course itself. It’s beautiful, the driving range is one of the best, each hole has it’s own hardness factor (the greens are tricky, tricky, tricky), the grass is generally in good condition, the holes are perfectly placed (but never where I want them to be)! However, I have never once had a good game here in my entire life!
I don’t know what it is with me and The Harvest, but given that each strike puts you a bit off kilter and your stance is a bit wobbly, this course is for those who know it, and love it. The hilly terrain is just not my fav and it feels a bit ‘too bare’. I’ve also have beyond bad experiences with the weather, so maybe that’s it. The wind picks up on this particular hill and even on a sunny day, I’m usually a tad cold. Then a hit a bad shot. Then I’m cold and angry…not a good mix.
The Food!
The food is ok, but not great. Some places are know for their cuisine and I’ve never found The Harvest to be in my top ‘must eat’ spots. The snack shack doesn’t stock too much and I’ve always felt that for a club of this esteem, they could do better.
The restaurant gets the same grade. Food you can find anywhere (with a few embellishments for the price). However, they have plenty of deck space and once again, the setting is the real beauty here. Tip* sit outside with a view of the pond and lights of downtown Kelowna beyond!
The Conclusion!
I begrudgingly play here two to three times a year and mostly because their pro shop is a favourite! They get fantastic gear here and I have more sweaters with little apple logos on them then I care to admit (maybe because I’m always cold here…?). Also, I must note that the staff that work at The Harvest have always gone above and beyond. In fact, they might be my favourite part!
As a side note, don’t worry if you’re not a member, they are also open to the public, you just call in for a tee time (there are local deals. My fav is 9 & wine!).
My score? I give it a solid 7.5/10
